Our Story

The mission of Philologa is to allow you to adorn yourself with a conversation piece of significance, to spark curiosity and conversation on what that concept means to you. This in turn might allow the conversation to flow to deeper topics, or to encourage others to consider their own personal philosophies or beliefs. 

The Concept:

Philologa was derived from a simple concept of wearable words, a method of reinvigorating philosophy into our daily lives. In the past, philosophy, ideology, and spirituality would guide behaviour, psychology, principles, and culture. It was spoken about, debated on, and shared between people both publicly and privately. Although our predecessors might speak openly, it is not a common conversation for our later generations, who naturally may not feel aligned with archaic traditions. The best philosophical concepts aren't fixed in time or based in traditions, but instead are focused on the nature of the universe, happiness, emotion, or what it means to be human. 

The Design:

Each item on the Philologa store was designed consciously, ethically, and sustainably in Australia, with a specific concept in mind. All products are hand-made and made to order. No designs from Philologa are plated or hollowed unless specifically requested by the customer, so you can be assured you only receive the highest quality materials. 

Custom designs or modifications to existing designs can be made via our Contact Form. Prior to ordering, please let us know if you require specific chain sizing or ring sizing if it is not available through checkout.  

Sustainability and Ethics:

We believe in incorporating the ethics and philosophies that are the backbone of the Philologa concept into every process and material used in the production of Philologa products. Everything we do takes into account ethics and sustainability. From design, through to production and eventually packaging and shipping to our customers, we are conscious of sustainable practices.

Although this may slow down production, we believe good things happen slowly.

Here are a few ways we do things slowly, better:

  • All our Philologa products are handmade in Australia.

  • All ready-made chains are sourced locally and ethically wherever possible. Where sourced internationally, primarily manufactured in Italy with a secondary manufacturer for gold-plated items in South Korea. 

  • All staff are paid and treated fairly.

  • All metals are of the highest quality and sourced and cast in Australia.

  • All stones and precious gems are sourced ethically.

  • All shipping materials are recyclable or compostable, including labels, excluding labels placed by external parties such as customs or international logistics services.

  • All recyclable waste products are recycled.

  • All shipping is completely carbon offset and Carbon Positive.

  • Where possible, Philologa avoids the use of:

    • Synthetic fibres, microfibre products.

    • Plastics, plastic tools, plastic storage.

    • Unnecessary shipping or importation, we source locally wherever possible.

    • Unnecessary chemicals, where chemicals must be used they are neutralised and disposed of safely.

    • Sourcing materials, labour or services from any suppliers that cannot confirm the fair treatment of their staff and ethical practices.
